Baby cribs
Even though a new parent has a lot of new responsibilities,
one of the main responsibilities at the top of the priority list should
be to be able to keep the baby cribs in the home safe.
Some of the things a parent must check on in a crib include:
• Mattress firmness – A well-meaning,
but uneducated parent might think that the best crib mattress is the
one that is softest. This is completely wrong. Crib mattresses must
be firm in ordered to be able to be safe for a child. Young children
who sleep in baby cribs with very soft crib mattresses are much more
at risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
• Crib bars – The bars around the crib
should not cause a danger to the baby inside the crib. It is important
that the bars around the crib are close enough together to make it difficult
for a baby to stick his or her leg or foot through the bars. One of
the ways that one can minimize the possibility of a child sticking his
feet through the bars of baby cribs is to use crib bumpers to protect
the children from the bars.
