It does not take long for a first-time parent to see exactly how much it can cost to buy baby gear. Although parents who are on their second or third child likely already have many of the things they need, the same is not true of parents who are expecting their first child.

Even though those who do not own baby gear typically spend a lot of money buying this gear, there are ways that money can be saved. One of the best ways to save money on baby gear is to buy gear that has been gently used.

Before buying used baby gear, the following things should be done:

• Check for recalls – One who buys new baby gear often registers the product and receives notice about any potential recalls. On the other hand, those who buy used baby gear do not get the recall information sent automatically to them. One who is looking for recall information should check with the U.S. Consumer Protection Safety Commission to find out which items have been recalled before purchasing them.

• Look in specialty baby stores – There are stores that specialize in buying and selling used baby gear. The items that one can choose from when buying used baby gear at one of these stores are usually in pretty good condition because the owners of these stores only buy used goods that are in decent condition.

By being careful when purchasing used baby goods, one is much more likely to be able to find nice things for his or her baby.
