Baby toys
Choosing baby toys should be done carefully. Not only
do these toys need to be fun and educational, but they also need to
be safe. Some tips for choosing good toys include:
• Age appropriateness – Even though a
two-year-old child might like playing with a toy for a six-year-old,
the fact is that these toys may not be safe for younger children. Likewise,
toys that are too complicated can be confusing for babies and they may
not want to play with them for very long.
• Stimulation – It is important that baby
toys will stimulate a child’s brain. The toys that do this best
are those that make sounds and include bright colors. Something like
a colorful mobile can be beneficial.
• Quality – Too many parents find out
after purchasing baby toys that they are not as sturdy or as durable
as they would have hoped. It is best to buy toys that are well made
because they are likely to be thrown around once a child gets a hold
of them.
• Paint – If there is paint on the baby
toys, it is very important to make sure the paint is not toxic. Some
of the toys that have come from China in recent years have been recalled
due to high amounts of lead. It is important that a parent does his
or her homework before buying baby toys.
• Avoid strings and ribbons – Toys that
include strings or ribbons are not safe for younger babies because of
the risk of strangulation. Typically any strings or ribbons that are
included with a toy should not be longer than approximately six inches.
One who follows these tips when buying baby toys is more likely to
see that his or her baby is happy with the baby toys he or she has.
